“Adleta
Galleries, Ltd. realizes there are many hidden treasures in the area. It appears
that creative traits are found in the individuals attracted to the Athens
area. This environment provides an incubator for innovations to be released
from the creative mind. We believe this is why there are so many artists
that retreat in this region. Nelson Hippolyte is one more of these artists.”

Joe Davis' current body of work offers a distinct departure from his former
traditional approach to pottery form and function. The
allure of these new pots is in their provocative forms and rich surfaces.
They offer a uniquely seductive, tactile experience. Inasmuch as these
pots beckon to be touched, explored and coddled, they are fondling
objects – pieces that cannot be fully comprehended without
the physical participation of the viewer/user. They are intended to arouse
desire and inspire physical inquiry and interaction.
"...I fill the cup and hold it by the plump foot. It will start to
warm, momentarily. There's no handle, so I hold the pot close to my body,
feeling the heat as I roll it across my belly. Fingers caress the curves
of the cup, finding the hip and discovering the soft interior of the foot. Bringing
the cup close to my face, I release a breath into the pot in anticipation
of a sultry exchange... "

artist statement regarding his vessels: For me, they are about friendship,
they are about sitting and sipping, savoring the moment.

surf,

sculpture/furniture by John R.G.Roth These
fantasized interpretations of this industrial aesthetic are rooted in
his memories and life experiences. Roths pieces speak to a moment
frozen in a time of bizarre incongruities. Often the absurd ship models
or marine dioramas within the work echo a journey similar to that experienced
in the movies: The City of Lost Children and Delicatessen, where nature
collides with the machine.
Changing
FACA ,
paintings by Feng Bin, Bai Hai, and He Jian This show was an insightful view into contemporary Chinese fine art. Changing
FACA, consisted of paintings by Feng Bin, Bai Hai, and He Jian.
All are faculty members in the Chinese Painting Department of the Sichuan
Academy of Fine Arts in Chongqing. Although the works of these three are
quite different in style, they share an enthusiastic commitment to two-dimensional
expression. The three artists find the limitation of two-dimensionality
a source of creative tension and stubbornly insist on picture plane as
the focus of their art. The power and appeal of their works may, in fact,
be partially based on this firm determination.

ceramics by Matt Kelleher: Adleta
Galleries was pleased to present the show, atmosphere, which
consisted of soda-fired innovative trenchers, ceramic plates, platters,
and exquisite covered jars by the nationally known ceramist and distinguished,
Ohio University visiting professor, Matt Kelleher.

SuN SuiTE
featured nineteen digital prints by Karen Nulf. Karen has been creating
photographic images throughout her career as a graphic designer and professor
of design at Ohio University. Her design work and teaching has been deeply
involved with type and letters. Yet the image as document and the ambiguity
of the photographic surface have been, for her, a constant and recurring
passion. Her work can be viewed on Karen's page.
bLue
trAin
consisted of drawings and paintings by the internationally
known, post-minimalist artist and Chauncey, Ohio resident, Guy
Goodwin.
Guy
Goodwin developed his work in New York City from 1965 until he moved his main
studio to Chauncey, Ohio in 1995. His early constructed paintings were
the beginning of an ongoing dialogue surrounding the physicality of painting.
Guy has indicated that his move to Chauncey inspired a profound change
in his work. At that point he began exclusively using the color blue in
his paintings. The degree of national and international interest in Goodwins
work speaks to the fantastic visual vocabulary of the paintings and drawings
he builds.

debuted Cary McVey, a stonecutter from Guysville, Ohio. In concert with
the artistic quality recognized in Carys work, Adleta Galleries
also featured the well-known mandolins by Pete Hart and Don MacRostie.
These two highly skilled local craftsmen are recognized nationally for
the quality of the musical instruments they create.
Cary
McVey had several objects of art in wood& stone,
however there is one phenomenal stone carving that was a must see
piece. This singular piece, entitled Missing
Call, made this show an essential event. It is interesting
to note that Cary McVey is a descendant of one of the first families that
settled Athens County.
Pete Hart and Don MacRostie
Pete
Hart and Don MacRostie have been creating mandolins over the past twenty
years. The musician, Lou Reid, is playing one of Dons Red
Diamond Fs on his recording of Scene It All with
Seldom Scene, and on Blue Heartache from Lou Reid and Carolina.
The Buckeye mandolins played by John Rigsby with Ralph Stanley
and the Clinch Mountain Boys and by John Keith with Melvin Goins and Windy
Mountain are two of many mandolins by Pete Hart that have made it to the
stage of the Grand Ole Opry.
'aSsembled'
Which opened November
15th and ran through January 25th 2003.
Assembled,
consisted of the new ceramic work by two internationally known ceramists
and Athens residents: Brad Schwieger and Robert Boomer
Moore.
Brad
Schwieger and Robert Boomer Moore
Brad and Boomer have exhibited work in prominent exhibitions in Seto,
Japan, Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic, Barcelona, Spain and Auckland,
New Zealand to mention only a few. Boomers exotic and voluptuous
pieces create a fantasy of a futuristic industrial thought. The degree
of national and international interest in Brads work speaks to the
fantastic visual vocabulary of the sculptural pots he conceives.

Robert Boomer Moore's work from the show.
